    Castle Rock: Quarry business declines dramatically around Castle Rock due to the increased use of concrete and lack of demand because of the panic of 1893.

    Spring Valley, Cherry Valley & Greenland: Worldwide flu epidemic is felt in Douglas County, as at least one family is wiped out in the Cherry Valley area.

The Keystone Hotel was built in 1901 out of Rhyolite. It sits on the corner of 4th and Wilcox Streets in Castle Rock, and is now the home of the Castle Cafe. Douglas County History Research Center #1996.053

When it was completed, Cheesman Dam was the tallest dam in the world. Ttaller than any structure in Denver. The structure was built of granite quarried from the nearby mountains. Photo courtesy of Denver Water Board.

The oldest part of the Highlands Ranch Mansion was built in 1891. The mansion was expanded to double its size before 1925.
