.....District 28 (Happy Canyon) school was located near the east side of I-25 between Lincoln Avenue and Surrey Ridge Road in northern Douglas County. The first classes were probably held in the Turner home, on the east side of Happy Canyon Road, until the school was built sometime before 1899. In the beginning there were probably 12-15 students, but the school population dwindled and like Round Top School to the south, Happy Canyon was open only when there were enough students to justify hiring a teacher. The school was closed permanently in 1943 and the building was torn down.
