[Former Douglas County Courthouse]
[The Journal and Printer Building]
[315 4th St., Castle Rock, Colorado]
[Douglas County, first courthouse built by W.W. Cantril]
1900
Halftone image. Building at 315 4th Street. The building was built by William Cantril in 1874 to serve as the Douglas County Courthouse in Castle Rock. Upon completion of the courthouse on Wilcox Street, this building became the home to the Castle Rock Journal, the community's newspaper. The building is a two story wooden structure with double hung windows, a gabled roof, three chimneys (two brick) and an attached smaller one story structure with one visible window and a door. A sign over the door to the building reads: "The Journal Fine Job Printing." A sign next to the door includes a bell (a telephone pole is visible in the back of the building.) A horse and buggy are tied to a hitching post at the side of the building. Trees in the photo do not have leaves, street is made of dirt, with wooden crossovers of ditches. A fence is visible at the side of the building. "Reistle" written in the bottom right corner of the print.
