Collection is arranged into the following series and subseries: 1. Douglas County Branch Materials 2. AAUW National Publications 3. Scrapbooks 4. Photographs. Materials within series 1-3 are arranged chronologically.

Scope and Content

The American Association of University Women record contains scrapbooks, rosters, and national publications created and/or accumulated by the Douglas County Branch of AAUW, a national organization. Scrapbooks contained in the collection document the history of the branch through photographs, pamphlets, event and party invitations, meeting minutes, reports from conferences or other trips, promotional materials, newspaper clippings on the branch's events, lists of executive committees and interest groups, correspondence with government officials, thank you notes, and other related materials.

The first scrapbook from 1977-1985 contains many newspaper clippings on the foundation of the Douglas County Branch. A framed letter from the AAUW president recognizing the Douglas County Branch in 1978 also resides in the collection. Materials in the scrapbooks mostly depict the organization's outreach, fundraising and voluntarism, and events, both internally (such as social gatherings and parties for the members) and within the larger community.

Collection contains scrapbooks from the following years: 1977-1985; 1985-1993; 1993-1996; 1997-2000; 2000-2003; 2003-2005; 2005-2006;2007-2010; 2010-2011; 2012-2014.

Other materials related to the Douglas County Branch include a record book and a series of membership rosters. The record book contains a few pages detailing the names, addresses, and dues owed by members during the early days of the Douglas County Branch from 1977-1981. The collection includes membership rosters from the following years: 1977-1995; 1996-1997; 1998-1999; 1999-2000; 2003-2004; 2006-2007; 2008-2009; 2010-2011; 2012-2013 .

A series of national publications produced by the American Association of University women comprises a small portion of the collection. Within the series are AAUW In Action newsletters from 2000, a bulletin on women and girls in technology; a "Guide to Member Services" pamphlet from 1999 detailing the goals and practices of the organization; a report from all Colorado branches of AAUW from the state conference in 2001; gift catalogs and a handout on strategies for building self-esteem in girls.

Forty-nine loose photographs are included in the collection. Photographs depict a variety of social events including "mystery trips," dining events, and holiday celebrations. The majority of the photographs appear to have been taken in 1997.

The group also provides a scholarship for Douglas County women in higher education. According to the branch's website, the group benefitted in membership growth from the rapid expansion of Castle Rock and the surrounding area in the late 1970s and early 80s.
