Scope and Content

This collection consists of photographs and newspaper clippings compiled by William (Bill) D. Rhine, whose family lived in Douglas County, Colorado, for multiple generations. Original black and white photographs depict the Cantril School in Castle Rock, Colorado, Douglas County High School students from around 1920, and a Castle Rock school reunion in 1934. A black and white postcard from around 1900 shows the Castle Rock band in uniform with instruments. Black and white negatives for both the Cantril School building and the band are part of the collection. Undated newspaper clippings depict the Castle Rock formation in a photo originally taken in 1898 by E.E. Van Epps, the Castle Rock Grade School with students in front around 1914, the first and second graders of Castle Rock Grade School, and an article headlined "'School Kids' of 'Gay Nineties' have Reunion." The newspaper gives credits the photographs of the Castle Rock Grade School and the Castle Rock to the scrapbook to Lois Remley, of Castle Rock.
