Scope and Content

Collection consists of 3 document boxes (0.8 cu. ft. total), as well as four folders of photographs, containing correspondence, photos, ephemera, ledger books, publications and school books, a single CD, and watercolor paintings created by Annie Lapham while traveling on a ship to migrate to America.


Historical Note

Edward Mortimer ("Mortie") Penley was born in 1858, in the small town of Dursley, in Gloucester, England. Mortie came to Colorado in 1878 and named his ranch "Cam Glen" after his home in England. The property, which later became known as Penley Ranch, was nestled in the foothills of Jarre Canyon, Douglas County, Colorado. In addition to cattle and crops, Edward and his wife Annie raised 8 children on the ranch. Mortie passed away in 1923.
