Scope and Content

The collection covers a variety of issues, mostly related to planning for growth in Douglas County in the 1980's and into the 1990's. Several housing developments are mentioned, including Castle Pines North, Stonegate, Stroh Ranch, Bell Mountain Ranch, Ridgegate (here called "Rampart Range") and Wildwood, but the biggest issues in the collection involve the expansion of the Centennial Airport into Douglas County and battles among the County Commissioners.

Mrs. Ferguson was an integral member of the Committee for Douglas County, a group of concerned citizens who lobbied against the expansion of the Airport and voiced their opinions on other issues before the County Commissioners.

The political situation among the County Commissioners in the mid-1980's was one of tense standoff. Eventually, community members and Republican Party members, as well as groups like the Committee for Douglas County asked for the resignation or recall of Frank McCurdy, who was elected to the Board of County Commissioners for District 2. McCurdy was suspected of being influenced by campaign contributions from area developers. McCurdy was not recalled and did not resign.
