The collection is arranged by subject, chronologically within subjects.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of a request for land records for Sec. 17, T10S, R65W, which is in East Cherry Valley, Douglas County, Colorado. The National Archives, Washington, D. C., provided copies of the records for two early owners of the property, John T. Edwards and William I. Somers. The records include an army discharge certificate, affidavits, homestead proofs, pre-emption proofs, and register and receiver receipts.


Biography / History

1880 - John T. Edwards paid $16 fee to register entry of property - S2SE4 & SE4SW4 Sec.17 and NE4NW4 Sec. 20, T10S, R65W

1882 - John T. Edwards proved up on soldiers homestead - S2SE4 & SE4SW4 Sec.17 and NE4NW4 Sec. 20, T10S, R65W

1891 - William I Somers proved up on homestead - W2NE4 and E2NW4 Sec. 17, T10S, R65W

1997 - Shirley Strich requested copies of land records for several early owners of Sec. 17, T10S, R65W; received records of ownership for John T. Edwards and William I. Somers

Acquisition Information

Shirley Strich, purchaser of Sec. 17, T10S, R65W, requested the records to document the ownership and improvements of the property in order to determine who built an old barn and other buildings. Strich donated the collection to the History Research Center in 1997.
