Abstract: | The Jane Jefferson Democratic Club of Colorado was formed in 1902 in response to women's desire to be more involved in the Democratic Party. The club was named in honor of the mother of Thomas Jefferson, Jane Rudolph Jefferson. Several other Jane Jefferson Democratic Clubs evolved throughout the state, including the one organized in Douglas County, Colo., in July 1954, the Jane Jefferson Democratic Club of Douglas County. In 1955 the state's 43 independent Jane Jefferson Democratic Clubs were federated. The main purpose of the club was to provide fundraising opportunities, a study group and forum for Democratic speakers, and to assist the Democratic Party during election years. By 1976, there were clubs in 28 counties, including Douglas County. Ida May Noe was involved in the Douglas County club, and served as its president in 1984. |
