Arrangement of the Collection

Collection is arranged with the small sets of items in the front in folders and the scrapbooks in image safes in the back of the box. The images have been removed to the fire files. Several newspaper supplements have been removed to the Newspaper Collection (1992.904). Study copies of the scrapbooks are available on the LHREF shelves.

Scope and Content

Two scrapbooks, numbered 1994.011 (Star Lighting) and 2004.055 (Golden Dobbin) with images, correspondence, newspaper articles and other materials related to the Golden Dobbin Restaurant and the Castle Rock Star Lighting Ceremony. Three folders in the collection include information about the Friends of the Library House Tours in 1969, 1970 and 1972; the Douglas County Courthouse Fire of 1978; and two copies of the cookbook "Recipies from the Golden Dobbin, 1965.


Biography / History

Anne Rogers McConnell grew up in Chicago and attended Northwestern University. She married William (Bill) McConnell August 22, 1936. After many years in Chicago, the couple moved to the Denver area in 1964, living first in Littleton, then in Surrey Ridge. Anne owned and operated the Golden Dobbin Restaurant from 1964-1994. While in Douglas County, Anne started the Star lighting Ceremony in Castle Rock and was involved in the formation of the Douglas County Library. She and her husband retired to Arizona, and Anne died in 2003.
