Abstract:Collection contains records of the Douglas County Woman's Club. The records give information about the activities and interests of the club. They also list members for these years, financial expenditures, and interests of the state and federal organizations of women's clubs. The yearbooks give much information in a very brief format; they list officers, information about meetings, dues, the national magazine, committees and their chairmen, programs, hostesses and membership for the years that we have them.

This collection is arranged alphabetically by subject, chronologically within subject headings.

Scope and Content

Specifically it includes copies of its newsletter Colorado club cues, 1952 - 1954; banking records, statements and a Treasurer's Record Book for 1950 - 1956; a copy of Colorado clubwoman, the journal of the Colorado Federation of Women's Clubs, April, 1956; a Colorado Federation of Women's Clubs Directory, 1955 - 1956; a constitution and bylaws for the Douglas County Woman's Club, undated; correspondence, bills and a book list for the Woman's Club Library, 1950 - 1956; Douglas County Woman's Club yearbooks, 1954 - 1956; and club minutes, 1950 - 1956.


Biography / History

1920-1949 - The Douglas County Woman's Club was organized in 1920 and federated in 1921. The Record Journal of Douglas County for that time period contains information concerning meetings and projects. The Record Journal for October 25, 1929 notes the opening of the library and a change in library hours. The Record Journal of 1942 notes a benefit tea for the library given by the DC Woman's Club. The records contained in this collection begin in 1949.

1950 (Sept 21) - Program: "Mrs. Ruth Disney told of her recent trip by United Air Ways to Hawii (sic)...A travel film by United Air Ways of Hawii (sic) was shown by Mr. Kirk, assisted by Mr. Pine."

1951 (Feb 16) - Inserted behind typed meeting minutes are handwritten minutes. They are glued to the typewritten ones, and are basically the same.

1951 (April 17) - Bill presented to the club for a braille dictionary for the library.

1951-1952 - Membership list included in the Meeting Minutes, p. 13.

1951 - Units of trees were regularly given in memory and appreciation of members and their families. There is no information given on what a unit of trees consisted of, or where it was planted.

1952 - Charities supported included: The March of Dimes, the Polio Drive, Care for Korea, The Minnie L. Harding Educational Loan Fund, The Red Cross, The Band Fund, The Penny Art Fund, and the Fitsimmons Hospital Christmas Party.(April 22) - All Woman's Club books, papers and bond certificates were placed in a vault in the city hall.(Nov 21) - The procedures for the Candlelighting Service of Friendship are attached to the Meeting Minutes for the month.

1953 (April 17) - Edna Manhart (Mrs. Albert), Program Chairman, presented the coronation preview. [coronation of Queen Elizabeth II).

1954 (June 18) - A special meeting was held to discuss the possibility of not continuing the DC Woman's Club for the 1954 - 1955 year. There were officer and membership problems. The Club decided to postpone dissolution until the regular September meeting. (Sept 17) - Kathleen Binford (Mrs. Max) was named president for the 1954 - 1955 year. No mention was made of disbanding the club.

1955 - The money making project for 1955 - 1956 was benefit card parties.
